Collection: TIES THAT BIND
Ties That Bind is a shared belief of common factors that link people together. Studies on social bonds & divisions reinforce the theory that cohesive communities exhibit greater development. A recent hometown visit reawakened Titi Adesa's shared sense of unity, identity, and purpose during design. Inspired by stories of her community and an ancient African proverb, "It is far easier to break a single broomstick than a bunch of broomsticks tied together", a reaffirmation of the ties that bind us was born.
The collection is largely informed by an overarching theme of unison which is depicted through interlockings, knots & sinuous ropes, in magnetic colourways & textures, from ribbed chartreuse, tangerine ombré to mustard satins, offering a fresh palette as the colourful heart of the collection. The Bria mesh sandal features multiple single straps on a breathable mesh base, centrally bound together.
Our Arewa style adapted from the emotive 'Arewa' knot logo from northern Nigeria in the early 1950's, embodies a visceral message of unity in diversity. While our Onigèlè, which means 'the one who ties the head crown' in Yoruba language, pays homage to the everyday Nigerian woman's regal head-tie, gèlè & features a knotted pleat arrangement. S'oké mule, a signature style of Titi Adesa, with its intricate hand-weft loops, is also presented in new colours on a defined comfortable 90mm heel. The ivory nappa tones give an opulent touch to the season's casualism.
